Mitigrate is a VC-backed ClimateTech and InsurTech startup providing automated analyses to guide preventive measures for reducing climate risks in real estate. Our platform integrates high-resolution satellite imagery, machine learning, and geospatial analysis to identify and implement over 40 climate-positive strategies.

Position overview

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the development of Mitigrate’s loss prevention platform. You’ll balance technical contributions with strategic leadership, mentoring engineers, shaping technical direction, and scaling the platform to meet business needs.

Key responsibilities

Leadership and strategy

• Define and implement engineering strategies aligned with company goals.
• Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing engineering team.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Technical expertise

• Contribute to the development of critical systems, driving architectural decisions.
• Ensure scalability and maintainability of the codebase.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and advocate their adoption when beneficial.

Team development

• Build and retain a world-class engineering team.
• Establish and promote engineering best practices, including code reviews and CI/CD pipelines.

Execution

• Own and deliver on engineering roadmaps, ensuring timely and budget-conscious project completion.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Ensure system reliability through robust DevOps practices.

Qualifications

Technical expertise

• Proficiency in Python and frameworks like Django.
• Experience with AWS infrastructure and IaC tools such as Terraform.
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks like ReactJS and geospatial data (e.g., satellite data).

Leadership and mentorship

• Proven experience in managing and scaling engineering teams.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and fostering professional growth.

Strategic and executional skills

• Ability to balance hands-on technical work with high-level strategy.
• Experience aligning engineering initiatives with business goals.

Experience

• 3+ years in a leadership capacity.
• Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum development processes.
